What StockingLab does
StockingLab helps aquarists test a proposed community before buying livestock. The planner looks beyond tank volume alone and considers adult size, relative waste, filtration, tank footprint, surface area, water parameter overlap, social-group needs, swim zones and known behavioural conflicts.
Results are designed to explain the reason for a warning rather than hide it behind a single score. The planner is a decision-support tool and not a guarantee of compatibility or animal welfare.
Editorial approach
Species information and compatibility rules are treated conservatively. Where the available information is less certain, the site should say so. Extended records are not allowed to drive automatic stocking recommendations until they have passed a more detailed review.

Editorial approach
StockingLab is designed as a transparent planning aid rather than an automated instruction to buy fish. The calculator exposes the inputs behind its warnings—adult size, tank geometry, filtration, maturity, social groups, water overlap, swim zone and behavioural rules—so a user can see why a combination has been flagged.
The species database also separates curated profiles from extended baseline records. That distinction is intentional: broader coverage is useful inside a planning tool, but uncertainty should remain visible. Lower-confidence records are not presented as equivalent to the curated core and should be checked against specialist husbandry sources before purchase.
Corrections
Aquarium husbandry information evolves and individual animals do not always behave like a database record. If you spot a factual problem, use the contact page and include a reputable source where possible. Corrections can be applied to adult size, group structure, water ranges, space requirements, behaviour or compatibility logic.
